Pastor Emeritus Richard A. and Mother Ida M. Bradford

Pastor Emeritus Richard Arnold Bradford has been a dedicated and loyal servant of God for over 64 years.  He and his family migrated from Oil City, Louisiana, under the leadership of the late Bishop C. A. Ashworth in 1944.  He became a member of then named Rhodes Ave. C.O.G.I.C.  Years later, the church moved to 355 Wooster Ave.(Wooster Avenue Temple C.O.G.I.C.) and is currently located at 1086 Vernon Odom Blvd (St. Ashworth Temple, C.O.G.I.C.).  While continually and humbly serving the Lord, Elder Bradford had served in many capacities (i.e, Deacon, Minister, Men’s Club President, Sunday School and Y.P.W.W. teacher, Elder, etc.).  He faithfully served as the Assistant Pastor to the late Bishop C. A. Ashworth and the late Supt. Emeritus Louis C. Walker. He was also the State Minister of Music under the late Bishop R.S. Fields.

Pastor Bradford came to know the Lord and was saved at the young age of 11 years old.  He accepted his call into the ministry at the age of 33 and preached his first sermon (I don’t know what time it is?) at age 36 when his father accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior during the altar appeal.

On June 18, 1961 a magnificent event took place in Pastor Bradford’s life.  He married the love of his life, Ida M. Bradford.  They joined in holy matrimony on that day; and to this day and forever more they are still undeniably in love.  Their relationship is the epitome of a married couple’s love. From this union were born two children, Adrienne and Andre'(Carla), three granddaughters Tayler, Sarah, and Cartonia.  Pastor and First Lady Bradford have always shown unconditional love to their family and taught their children to love God and others.

Pastor Richard Bradford retired from B. F. Goodrich (35 years service) and from Marvin Wollins Furniture (25 years service).  He presently ministers to bereaved families through the Stewart Calhoun Funeral Home.

Pastor Bradford, affectionately known as Brother Richard, has been the Minister of Music at St. Ashworth Temple C.O.G.I.C (the One and Only church where he has held membership) for many years where he has become very well-known throughout the Akron and surrounding communities as well as throughout the State of Ohio and across the country. Through his ministries of spreading God’s Word via singing, preaching and playing under the anointing of the Holy Ghost, he blesses everyone with whom he comes in contact.

Pastor Bradford is a very humble, hard-working and dedicated servant of God.  How you see Pastor Bradford out in public is exactly how he is behind closed doors.  He has a heart for God’s people to display the characteristics of Christ and be an example that draws others to Christ.  His message to his congregation each Sunday is always to be unified in love and to show the love of Christ toward one another (Psalms 133).

Pastor Bradford was appointed to the office of Pastor of St. Ashworth Temple Church of God in Christ on October 14, 2008. He retired in June 2015.
